A New Chapter for Scooby-Doo
Released directly to video in 1998, the film helped launch a new series of feature-length animated adventures.

This time, the monsters are real!
After going their separate ways, Scooby-Doo, Shaggy, Velma, Daphne, and Fred reunite to investigate the ghost of Moonscar the pirate on a haunted bayou island, but it turns out the swashbuckler's spirit isn't the only creepy character on the island. The sleuths also meet up with cat creatures and zombies... and it looks like for the first time in their lives, these ghouls might actually be real.
Why it's in the Vault
Scooby-Doo on Zombie Island brings Mystery Inc. into a moodier, more atmospheric adventure than the gang's familiar television mysteries. The Louisiana bayou setting, decaying plantation house and eerie nighttime landscapes give the film a distinctive Southern Gothic flavor, while its traditional animation preserves the colorful charm of late-1990s Scooby-Doo. The story makes a welcome effort to surprise viewers who already know the franchise's usual tricks, adding a genuine supernatural dimension to the mystery. Its humor and characterization remain simple, and the adventure does not always escape the conventions of family-oriented animation. Nevertheless, the spooky atmosphere, energetic music and affectionate familiarity of Scooby and his friends make it an enjoyable nostalgic watch. A modest but appealing animated mystery, particularly for those who like their Scooby-Doo adventures with a little extra darkness.
