Dashing legionnaire Rick O'Connell stumbles upon the hidden ruins of Hamunaptra while in the midst of a battle to claim the area in 1920s Egypt. It has been over three thousand years since former High Priest Imhotep suffered a fate worse than death as a punishment for a forbidden love, along with a curse that guarantees eternal doom upon the world if he is ever awoken.

The Mummy is pure adventure entertainment, bursting with ancient curses, supernatural creatures, spectacular action and irresistible humor. Brendan Fraser gives Rick O'Connell the perfect balance of swagger and self-mockery, while Rachel Weisz brings intelligence, charm and wonderful comic timing to Evelyn Carnahan. Stephen Sommers revives the spirit of classic Hollywood adventure with an infectious enthusiasm, supported by impressive creature effects and Jerry Goldsmith's sweeping orchestral score. Some digital effects have visibly aged, but the film's pace, chemistry and generous imagination remain remarkably enjoyable. A wonderfully entertaining cult adventure that captures the exuberant spirit of late-1990s blockbuster cinema.
