Jumanji
Jumanji
Why it's in the Vault
Jumanji: The Animated Series preserves something essential from the 1995 film: the unsettling idea that a mysterious game can trap ordinary children in a world of unpredictable dangers. Its strange creatures, threatening landscapes and grotesque talking masks could be genuinely frightening for younger viewers, while still providing the excitement of a fantasy adventure. The series has its own appeal, especially for those who remember its bizarre inhabitants and the feeling that almost anything could happen inside the game. Yet its modest television animation, repetitive visual style and distinctly Saturday-morning presentation lack the cinematic imagination and emotional depth of the original film. It is not a bad adaptation, and the spirit of Jumanji remains recognizable, but the execution has aged considerably. A nostalgic curiosity rather than an essential classic, worth revisiting mainly for its unusual atmosphere and childhood memories.

Dans les coulisses
The animated series premiered in 1996, following the success of the 1995 live-action film.
Unlike the film's central premise of jungle dangers entering the real world, the series regularly sends Judy and Peter into Jumanji itself.
Alan Parrish remains trapped within the game's world, where Judy and Peter encounter him during their adventures.
The series ran for three seasons between 1996 and 1999.
The cartoon expands Jumanji into a strange world of creatures, puzzles, villains and changing environments.
Each adventure involves solving a clue or challenge, giving the animated series a recurring quest structure.
