A Landmark Digital Ghost
Casper became one of the earliest feature films to place a fully computer-generated lead character at the center of a live-action story.

Seeing is believing.
Casper is a kind young ghost who peacefully haunts a mansion in Maine. When specialist James Harvey arrives to communicate with Casper and his fellow spirits, he brings along his teenage daughter, Kat. Casper quickly falls in love with Kat, but their budding relationship is complicated not only by his transparent state, but also by his troublemaking apparition uncles and their mischievous antics.
Why it's in the Vault
Casper is one of those childhood films whose magic refuses to fade. Behind its playful ghosts, spectacular mansion and mischievous comedy lies a surprisingly tender story about loneliness, grief, friendship and the longing to be loved. Christina Ricci brings warmth and sincerity to Kat, while the friendly ghost himself becomes a deeply sympathetic figure rather than merely a charming special effect. What makes the film endure, however, is its emotional honesty: even years later, its gentler moments can still strike a remarkably sensitive chord. And then there is James Horner's magnificent score. One Last Wish captures the film's entire bittersweet soul in a melody that seems to carry childhood memories within every note. Later installments may not have preserved the same magic, but this original remains a heartfelt, beautifully nostalgic fantasy. A genuine childhood favorite that still knows exactly how to touch the heart.
